Around September/October time last year, we had the British winter hovering over us like a dark cloud in the distance. I, for one, am a fair-weather golfer. What can I say, it’s a long walk, especially when zig-zagging across fairways, so I like it to be nice for it. With this in mind, I don’t want to have a winter full of only thick mud, ten layers and plugged golf balls. Then a spark flew through my mind.
Golf trip.
Not just anywhere, but somewhere where decent weather is always apparent. Where else but Dubai? I also happen to be lucky enough to have access to accommodation out there. Over a couple of pints, I put the idea towards Ash. Naturally, he loved the idea as, like me, he is a fair-weather golfer.

We are both lucky in the fact that our partners are very relaxed. This doesn’t mean they were necessarily happy with us going, but they weren’t against it. I think this was more through jealousy of us getting some winter warmth in. (Sorry, ladies.)

Roll forward a few months, and countdowns go from months, to weeks, to days and eventually hours. It was finally time, and what a time it was. The weather was exactly what we were hunting for, and the courses were better than expected.
For those interested, we played the following:
-Al Hamra Golf Club, Ras Al Khaimah
-The Fire Course, Jumeirah Golf Estate
-9 holes on the Faldo course at night, Emirates Golf Estate
-The Earth Course, Jumeirah Golf Estate
We were also lucky that the Dubai invitational was also playing at Dubai Creek Yacht and Golf Club whilst we were there. With the tickets being free, we thought it would be rude not to play and might even get us pumped up for our last round. I finally got the chance to see a few of the big names in golf, including Rory McIlroy and Tommy Fleetwood.

Unfortunately, all things have to come to an end. The courses were amazing, the weather even better, but it’s always nice to come home at the end of a trip. Now wehave to wait a few more months for some of that weather to get to good old blighty.
We might be waiting a while.
Going out with Ash as well was great. Not only did it mean he could get some “Winter training”, as we might have sold it, but it also gave a chance for me pick up a few hints and tips along the way through the round. He’s definitely worth keeping an eye on for those who enjoy golf.
He’s a Ping-sponsored player and also sponsored by a small (but still growing) company from Lincolnshire called Clean’n’Jerk. Big thank you to them for supplying some meaty goods for the trip. Keep your mind out of the gutters….They’re a beef jerky company.

Thank you once again for having a read. If you get a chance, please head over to Instagram and check out Ash, Clean’n’Jerk and whilst. You’re there, drop me a follow and maybe interact with some of my posts.
As always, if you would like to contact me regarding a shoot, either click HERE or drop me a message on my Instagram.
Oh, and yes, we did catch a few birdies as well. mostly by Ash, but I did get my fair share as well.
